The Major/Minor

This week’s featured program is the Expressive Arts Therapy Major and Minor at Endicott College. From the website:

Develop a solid foundation in therapy techniques while utilizing your artistic abilities to engage and help others.

Performing and visual arts come together with psychology to create this unique degree program, which includes hands on classroom instruction utilizing an integrated arts approach philosophy by incorporating the use of visual arts, dance and movement, music and sound, theater, and creative writing.

Two Interesting Courses

AET 200 – Methods and Materials in Arts and Expressive Therapy

Within a studio setting, students will explore creative arts therapy methods, techniques, materials, and equipment through participation in various creative experiences. Students will participate in music making, dancing, dramatic arts, creative writing, visual arts, and integrated arts approaches with the goal of studying their therapeutic effects.

AET 306 – Drama Therapy and Psychodrama

This course introduces students to the basic principles and practices of drama therapy and how many different theater or drama activities can be used in the service of healing. There are exercises in psychodrama, improvisation, storytelling, poetry, puppets, movement/dance, sound/music, and work with dreams.
