This week’s featured program is the Personal Financial Planning Minor at the University of Wisconsin – Green Bay. From the website:
Make a solid investment in your future. Prepare for a successful career helping people achieve their life goals through financial planning. And, as a CFP Board Registered Program, we provide the educational requirements needed to sit for the Certified Financial Planner™ exam.
Students enrolled in the minor take three foundational courses and seven required personal financial planning courses.

FIN 282. Personal Financial Planning
Exploration and functional analysis of consumers’ financial needs and problems in our modern and complex society; learning to formulate financial goals, implement and monitor them through specific plans, financial functions such as budgeting, investing, financing, protecting and distributing wealth; philosophies and values of consumers; legal aspects of consumer rights.
FIN 415. Employee Benefits and Retirement Planning
Fundamentals of employee benefits and retirement planning. The course includes an examination of anticipated retirement needs and potential qualified and non-qualified options that might be available. Topics include corporate and individual retirement plans, planning strategies to meet client goals, retirement income management, an integrated framework for the analysis of needs and the fulfillment of goals in the workplace.

Unique Opportunities within the Minor
The University of Wisconsin Green Bay is home to the Charles Schwab Foundation Center for Financial Wellness, which provides students with opportunities to engage in peer financial coaching and community outreach, and to participate as VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) volunteers.
Students can join the Personal Financial Planning Association (PFPA), which:
…provides members with professional development resources that include access to employers and faculty to facilitate internship, career and scholarship opportunities. as well as give topic-driven presentations from personal financial planning and financial services professionals.
